Every Signature Drink at Playa Grande, Explained: Ingredients, Taste & What to Eat With It

Three signature tiki-mug drinks at Playa Grande

Eight signature drinks, eight sculpted mugs, one rule: every glass is built by hand. This is the full, one-by-one guide, with what's in each drink, how it tastes, and what to eat with it.

All details below come from Playa Grande's own Signature Drinks sheet. Tasting notes are our description of how these ingredients typically come together; the bar's exact recipe and proportions are theirs. Jump to a drink:

Blue Lagoon · Wild Berry Tulum · Beso de Cobra · Playa Norte · Días de Cabo · Captain Agave · Café Loco · Horchata Loca

The tiki mugs

The mugs are half the fun. The Blue Lagoon comes in a pineapple, Wild Berry Tulum in an octopus, Beso de Cobra in a cobra, Playa Norte in a fish and Captain Agave in a coconut-shaped vessel. Bring a friend with a phone.

The drinks

Blue Lagoon $15

Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon · $15

What's in it: Jose Cuervo, Cointreau, lemonade, simple syrup, blue curaçao.

Bright, citrusy and a little sweet. The lemonade and Cointreau keep it tart and orange-scented, and the blue curaçao gives it that unmistakable swimming-pool color. It arrives in a yellow pineapple mug, so it looks like vacation before the first sip.

Order it with: Pair it with ceviche, shrimp cocktail or a crisp sushi roll; the citrus loves seafood.

Wild Berry Tulum $13

What's in it: Blueberry vodka, lime juice, blue curaçao, simple syrup.

Berry-forward and tangy. Blueberry vodka, lime and blue curaçao make a deep blue-purple drink, rounded out with simple syrup. It comes in an octopus mug with a blueberry skewer, and it is the one people photograph first.

Order it with: Try it with chips and guacamole or a plate of nachos while you decide on dinner.

Beso de Cobra $15

Beso de Cobra
Beso de Cobra · $15

What's in it: Jose Cuervo, peach schnapps, orange juice, mango mix, simple syrup, lime juice.

Tropical and juicy: peach schnapps, orange juice, mango mix and lime sit on top of a Jose Cuervo base, with simple syrup to smooth it out. The cobra-shaped mug, with mint, a lemon wedge and a little palm-tree pick, is the showpiece.

Order it with: A natural match for fajitas, carne asada or anything off the grill.

Playa Norte $13

Playa Norte
Playa Norte · $13

What's in it: Jose Cuervo, lime juice, guava syrup.

The simplest drink on the sheet and one of the easiest to love: Jose Cuervo, lime juice and guava syrup. Expect tart lime up front and a soft, floral-fruity guava finish. It is served in a fish mug.

Order it with: Great with tacos, especially anything fried or rich, because the lime cuts through it.

Días de Cabo $16

Días de Cabo
Días de Cabo · $16

What's in it: Lemonade, peach schnapps, orange juice, mango syrup, simple syrup, Cointreau.

A sunny, sweet-and-sour blend of lemonade, peach schnapps, orange juice, mango syrup and Cointreau, topped with a dried blood-orange slice. The sheet doesn't list a base spirit for this one, so ask your server what it's built on.

Order it with: Pair it with something salty or spicy, like chips with salsa or a spicy shrimp dish.

Captain Agave $17

Captain Agave
Captain Agave · $17

What's in it: Captain Morgan, Jose Cuervo, lemonade, simple syrup, passion fruit syrup.

A rum-and-tequila mash-up: Captain Morgan and Jose Cuervo with lemonade, simple syrup and passion fruit syrup, finished with fresh mint. Served in a coconut-shaped vessel, it drinks like a tropical punch with a mojito's freshness.

Order it with: Perfect with grilled shrimp, seafood tacos or a game-day basket of something fried.

Café Loco $17

Café Loco
Café Loco · $17

What's in it: Baileys, Kahlúa.

Dessert in a mug. Baileys and Kahlúa make it creamy, coffee-sweet and frothy, and it comes with rosemary and dried orange for aroma. This is the one to order after dinner.

Order it with: Pair it with churros or flan, or have it instead of dessert.

Horchata Loca $19

Horchata Loca
Horchata Loca · $19

What's in it: Woodford Reserve, horchata.

The most premium signature drink on the sheet: Woodford Reserve bourbon and horchata. Think cinnamon, vanilla and rice-milk sweetness with the warmth of bourbon underneath, like a grown-up version of the horchata you already love.

Order it with: Sip it slowly with dessert, or after a rich plate like birria.
